Jim Arthur
Had an Air Force fan say to me last night he thought this was the biggest game for the Falcons in DECADES!!!!!!! Thought about that for a while and he might be right. An Air Force win over Navy gets the 7 year monkey off the Falcons back. And it really sets them up for the potential of a BIG Season. Should the Midshipmen win, its another year of losing to Navy and now having to forget it and gear up for a difficult second half of the season. Talked to Troy Calhoun Thursday night and he said this might be the toughest schedule the Falcons have had in years. For Troy to say that is significant because he never looks ahead. But he's right. Next week an in-state rival Colorado State, then off to face much, much improved San Diego State. Then to Fort Worth to battle TCU and home at the end of October to face Utah.
Keys to Saturdays game...The Falcons defense must stop Navy on 3rd down. If they keep the ball for 6-7 minutes Navy will have the advantage...The health of Navy QB Ricky Dobbs. Has had a bum ankle. Said this week he was 91 percent (yes, 91 percent-love that from a service academy kid)..And the Falcons can't hurt themselves- Can't miss a field goal, give up a blocked punt, stupid penalties. What worries you is Air Force has battled those demons at times this year.
